Car Tax increases as of April 1st 2019

Unfortunately, road tax for newly registered cars is due to increase as of the 1st April 2019. The good news is, here at Red Kite Leasing, we have put together a handy guide to advise you on all of the changes you can expect.

Car tax changes to vehicles registered from 1st April 2019

From the begining of April, we will see the 1st years road fund increase on all new cars, with exception to fully electric cars that emit zero tail emmissions, these will remain at £0. There will also be an increase in road tax from the second year onwards, increasing from £140 to £145 on cars costing less than £40,000 from new.
Vehicles in excess of £40,000 from new will attract an increase between years two and five, increasing from £450 to £465 and then returning to £145 from year six and onwards.

As all cars are taxed based on their CO2 emmissions, we have illustrated below the revised road tax bandings and their new prices:

Can i reduce my car tax?

Where as the tax changes are all based on an increase, there are still a couple of ways that you can avoid having to pay any car tax at all.

Fully Electric Cars

There are now a number of fully electric cars on the market that emit zero tail emmissions. They have typically evolved from previous hybid models and work on the basis of having no combustion engine on board, instead being plugged in to charge an onboard battery.

Zero tail emmissions means that you are exempt from any road tax requirements, whilst also doing your bit for the environment and saving money at the pumps at the same time.

Contract Hire

One of the big benefits of contract hire is that, as a user, you are not required to pay road tax on the car, that is the responsibility of the lease company, saving you money and the stress of having to remember that all important date of when it is due.

Here at Red Kite Leasing, we have put together our best Personal Contract Hire and Business Contract Hire offers.

If you would like to discuss any of our offers further, please get in touch.
